Game Player Information ( MMORPG ) Needed

I hope the many game players on here can help out with a little information gathering.

I am starting a project based on the MMORGP market locally.

Any info that you can give on the popularity of online gaming, either at home or in the games centers dotted about would be welcome.

Market size, forums ( English or Chinese ), specialist shops, clubs and anyone that would meet ( free beer! ) with an in depth knowledge of the culture so I could pick their brains.

What has peaked by interest was the stats from the recent Ani-Com with 500,000 visitors ( guess a lot went more than once and got counted ), seems this is a massive closed door culture here.

Plan to go to the Oct fair in Guangzhou so wanted to have some background.

Boris, some of my customers are the biggest MMORPG game hosting companies in Asia. They are probably the best people to ask. Another of my customers are guys handling the payments in China where moving money around is not easy.

We have also liquidated some of the MMORPG companies setup here in Hong Kong... The local HK market is not that impressive and is already fulfilled by the giants like World of War Craft etc.

If you're talking MMORPG - there is only one giant out there - World of Warcraft. With over 7 million subscribers and about 5-6 million active players, it is by far the largest game. As for the local market in HK - things aren't so great, but China is a huge market as is Korea. But yea - unless you have a bankroll of over 15-20 million USD MINIMUM it would be excruciatingly difficult to appeal to the customers as games like WoW, soon-to-be-released Warhammer Online, and the non-subscription based Guild Wars (and subsequent expansions) take up more than 90-95% of the stake.
