Dalton played Bond dark??? If you mean without any humour and a stiff upper lip, OK. He was a walking cardboard Bond with no dimentionality to the character Roger Moore was silly Bond but had some nice lines. Pierce had the right Bond coming from Rem Steele, but somehow lost it along the way and his movies were totally unrealistic. Daniel Craig's Bond is probably second to Connery as the fight scenes are very real, and the stunts more believable but his lines are not as well written. No one can touch Connery - had the cool, had the lines, had the edge - Cool Britannia personified.

When ordering a martini, Moore looked the part. When he had any fight scenes, they were pure slapstick. His "karate" was more Austin Powers than 007.

Dalton was forgettable, but it was a transitional time for the franchise as well as the world. The Cold War had ended and the Bond writers and producers were having a hard time creating story lines in a new world order that didn't have the free and democratic West pitted against a communist Eastern Block. It was also quite an abrupt change from the cheeky Moore to the dark and brooding Dalton.

Connery will always be in the discussion for best 007 because he originated the role of Bond and the Bond movies established the genre.

But having said that, I'm impressed with the way the new Bond movies look. They are gorgeous. The action scenes are so tight and Craig is so physical - he looks like he can kick ass. Moore and Brosnan, not so much. Judi Dench is awesome as Q - she looks like she can kick some ass; or at least administer a tongue-lashing that feels like an ass-kicking. And Eva Green in Casino Royale? Beautiful. And I love the fact that she wasn't the latest pretty-young-thing from Hollywood (Terri Hatcher, Denise Richards, Sophie Marceau). As far as I could tell, she was an unknown to the majority of the audience.

There's a sparseness to these Bond movies that probably borrow from the Bourne movies. I happen to like that. Plus, this Bond is being evolving before eyes. You could see he was a wild and cocky young agent in Casino Royale - all testosterone. In the following movies, you notice his gradual maturation - a lot of testosterone, but a little calculation sprinkled in for good measure. The journey to the "finished" Bond should be a fun ride.

Good flick. Nice shots. Good music Decent acting. A few good lines and a very present/intense vilain this time.

As to best Bond....it really depends on the script to be honest and Brosnan could have been great for example if the movies were better. Craig not bad but very physical and lost a bit of those fun one liners. Moore ok la. The other 2 no Bond material in my view.

    Remains Connery.

I thought Pierce Brosnan was a good 007. I just found it hilarious that he took on other invincible roles after first playing Agent 007, such as Thomas Crown, a multi-millionaire biniz man and art burgler who made his way through Oxford on a boxing scholarship.

I really like Brosnan, and he would have made a really great bond but unfortunately he got horrible scripts and he came in little too late to play the role.

If you go back and watch Roger Moore now I always wonder how he got away with it. Some of it is very cheesy, although good fun. Live and Let Die was enjoyable.

The franchise was becoming irrelevant and stale until Daniel Craig arrived. The new films are a very much needed breath of fresh air.
