    Things to Do

    Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Hong Kong and I don't have any friends. Yea, I know, it's kinda sad. So I've been wandering around alone. And I've run out of things to do other than shopping, going to the bars, and eating. Now I'm running low on money, I'm getting sick of bars, and I'm getting fatter from the food. Any suggestions on what else there is to do?

O and any suggestions on how I can meet people around the age of 21 (my age) without being in clubs or bars?

    Thanks Everyone,
    ~Pat

    Cool many things!

Get started by picking up those guides you see in Starbucks, Dymocks, Cafe O, and other stores like

    HK Magazine
    THE LIST

    etc. They're all free.

These have lots of listings for events and activities. Are you outdoorsy? There are lots of hiking trails and beaches to check out - Stanley's having the big Dragon Boat races this Sunday, for instance.

Do you like sporting activities, or the gym? There are art exhibits, live gigs, and music events. Summer courses at the universities.

You could also travel to the islands - Sai Kung, Cheung Chau, Lamma...

You won't run out of things to do.

To adahc: I have a job, that's why I'm in Hong Kong. And my apartment has a gym facility which is decent, so I go there. And neither of these places are too exciting.

To aquarella: Thank you, great advice. Those guides are very helpful. I'll probably try out some live music venues.

To checl: I think I might try to brush up on my instruments (guitar or piano). But thanks for the suggestion.

    The Fringe!

if live gigs are your thing, then try The Fringe. they do jazz, classical, modern music.

    Lower Albert Rd in Central.

    fringe anyone??

Hi, I noticed this thread heading towards live music and checking out the fringe. I love going, and do so often. If anybody is ever up for a gig there, let me know I'll probably be going anyway!

    G'day Nastynate,

A couple of idea's that are not bar centric, as bar life gets pretty old after 6 months, especially if bar life wasnt part of your recreational ideaology prior to moving here..

If you want to get out there and enjoy some new personal development skills, then I'd suggest joining a yacht club as a junior member, learn to sail, as most weekends will have something on to keep you busy.

The good thing about 32ft and longer craft, is they need crew of 4 or more people. One of the best ways to make very strong friendships, over the bar associations that you are probably getting a bit tired of etc. .

HEBE HAVEN YACHT CLUB ia one of the most affordable yacht clubs in HK, just for the example. Aberdeen might be worth a look, RHKYC might be a bit out of the budget, but certainly one of the best clubs globally if you get the sailing bug.

The Hong Kong aviation club is another fantastic club, where you can either learn how to fly a helicopter from the Kowloon Bay hangar location, or learn to fly a plane, a high wing , recreational series Cessna, from the Shek Kong Air strip.
    Welcome to HKAC

Another interesting adventure sport is Paragliding, a lot tamer than base jumping and wing suit flight, great to see that HK actually has an association. > HKPA - About us

Once again, aquarella good advice. Thank You.

I picked up a version of HK Magazine. I couldn't find The List. Which one is better?

O and Skyhook, I don't know about sailing (I get sea sick). But, the paragliding sounds like a fun once-in-a-while type thing for me. But, thanks for the info.

HK Magazine is pretty much it

Keep looking in cafes and bookstores...HK is a very good start. You'll see 4-5 other types of guides which are English/bilingual. Good luck
