    SEVVA - HKD240 for one dosa....

    I was reading an article about SEVVA the 25/F restaurant in Prince's building. The food is quite expensive and they serve dosa for 240 bucks

    For those who don't know Dosa, the basic ingredient consists of legume, rice, seasoning and oil.

    They better be serving a bottle of wine with the dosa at that price!

    Sewa, as a venture will have a short life, once the curiosity of a $250-300 dosa has worn out, I don't think they'll get much repeat traffic. Besides, as an Indian, I'm too cheap to spend $250 on a dosa, even if it came with a bottle of wine.

    Dosas are supposed to be cheap, hearty food - stuff we'd spend HK$2-5 in India, for lunch on a regular basis.

    Real pity though, as a reasonably priced Dosa / South Indian restaurant would do well on this side of the harbour.

    Never mind wine, they won't even give you a glass of water to go with it - they insist that you buy some other county's tap water in a bottle at a ridiculous price.

    PDLM - Obviously you're not being pampered by your private banker. Very niche market for Dosas and Euro-water.

    SEVVA | HK-magazine.com - interesting to see HK magazine get pissed off at a venue.

    A friend and I went there the other night and while the ambiance is lovely (great view from the balcony - and can even enjoy it in the rain as they have a giant awning) the prices are just unbelievable! HKD 220 is the cheapest I saw for the nibbles/appetizers and a generic (not vintage - Veuve Cliquot or similar) glass of bubbly set me back around 200! Good I guess if you want to make a really good impression on someone and have saved up a few hundred dollars as a treat : )

    Pronounced ‘Savour’, meaning to experience a taste, SEVVA will deliver a unique and quintessentially Hong Kong dining experience inspired by what Gokson describes as ‘the DNA’ of Hong Kong

    (see guys, you're not meant to be full... you're only be given a Taste experience)

    but i have no clue what DNA of HK is :-?

    ======

    Even the water used throughout SEVVA has been thoughtfully considered and the restaurant will only use a specialised water system which completely cleanses water of chemicals and metals and is beneficial to the body.

    (Duh, not only will it cleanse your body... it will also cleanse your wallet)

    If that is not a daylight fucking robbery, then what is?

    I have also seen some restuarants display fancy Italian/french dishes names on their menus and charge a fortune for them.

    There is an Indian restuarant on the Jaffe road, Wan Chai that makes nice Dosas, even the prices are very reasonable. Though that restuarant is not a South Indian fare, they do have different kinds of Dosas.
