Seeing as the weather has been bloody bonza this past week, we decided to spend the day out on the water yesterday, and continue our island hopping adventures. 3 months ago we visited High Island, which was pretty good. Yesterday we thought we'd take a closer look at The Ninepin Group of Islands.
We ended up anchoring off Ninepins South Island ( uninhabited ), Kayaking across to Kwo Chau Wan (???) beach, then trekked up to the summit, where there is a temple dedicated to Tin Hau. All in all, it was an excellent day out, calm sea, blue sky, and conditions perfect for swimming off the stern.
I made a little video of our day out, this time, I didn't forget to bring the video camera along..
It would be great, if any of you have any cool Hong Kong video's of what you get up to, when you are not working, so we can see what else is out there....Beyond LKF and Wan Chai.

Love your work Skyhook. I am assuming that there are companies in HK that hire out boats (with lessons etc) like they do in the Whitsundays. Anyone know of any?

Its nice to get out on the water, I highly recommend it, feels like home when we are out there.
Regarding lingo lol being Aussie Gen X, I still tend to use a bit of our eroding slang vocab, mumto2.
Bayrunner, you can charter a skippered vessel of any configuration you pretty much want in HK, but you will need to join a Yacht Club and get your licence if you want to sail solo...

Might be a good idea to inquire about what the waiting list is like at a club nearest you, and maybe look into a consortium ownership with 1 or more people, keeps the costs down then. Or, get friendly with some mates who own a yacht already and go out for the day with them.
You have a few options available, if you also love being on the sea, it certainly makes living here in HK a lot more like home, and having the ability to get away from it all, on your days off.

Fair dinkum, we had John Williamson's Hey Tru Blue, Home Among the gum tree's playing on the DVD, and Aussie flag beach towels all over the show. We were going spare as usual. It doesn't take much, for us lmfao.
I'll pop a couple of youtube video's below, so people who are not Aussie get the gist of where i am coming from.
LOL It helps a lot if you have had a few glasses of wine, also.
When we are out at sea, we really let our Aussie hair down. We don't have to worry about the sooks out at sea, even though expats all over speak, and supposedly understand English, they often don't, when it comes to national use of slang. I can understand the Brits and the Americans, as i have traveled a lot, and I suppose quiet familiar with their media, but Aussie lingo, and I will include Kiwi slang, as I'm a dual citizen via my father, tends to be largely unknown outside to the rest of the English speaking world.... Sth Africans get it though, must be an outpost thing.
I am sure you know what I mean, mumto2.

pmsl i knew you were kidding, it was just the first lot of slang that came into my head...that's what i love most about our slang too: that we could have a whole conversation in front of other english speakers and they wouldn't have a clue what we were saying...its just so ridiculous that its fun...one of my favourites that has me rolling in the aisles is just not appropriate to write though...although only aussie's might get it...lol...i often just reread Puberty Blues to get a fix of belly-grabbing laughs from our slang...

Ha Ha Zen, I'm glad you enjoyed that.
You should get down to Sai Kung ( town ) water front and hire a sampan, or junk with a few of your buddies, take along some picnic food and beverages, and get out there. There are 2 supermarkets 5 minutes walk from the water front too. Makes it even easier....
We have the weather for it at the moment, might as well make use of what little we get to enjoy.

Nice one. Will be sailing out of Shelter Cove this Sunday and hope it will be as beautiful a day. Unfortunately will be more in racing spirit, so don't expect a video...I made a little video of our day out, this time, I didn't forget to bring the video camera along..

Nice one beachball, are you crewing/skippering a 32 footer or a 12 metre racing class ?
I have competed in a couple of Regatta's conducted by HHYC. We were often first across the finish, but due to class handicap, ended up 3rd or 4th.
Sailing out of Shelter Cove will be pretty awesome. Perfect weather for it.
