You may have heard that Transformers: Age of Extinction premiered in Hong Kong last week. Guess who got to see the much-anticipated movie in 3D before its official release?
As expected, the movie was cutting edge in true Michael Bay fashion. Without giving away too much of the plot, we can definitely confirm that it featured state-of-the-art computer graphics and effects, and a whole lot of noisy explosions. And of course seeing familiar glimpses of our city including aerial shots of Victoria Harbour, building blocks, minibuses, star ferry and red taxis was the cherry on top!
The movie picks up four years after the catastrophic battle that took place in Chicago in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Government agent Harold Attinger orders teams of military forces to hunt down and eradicate all remaining Transformers (both the Autobots and Decepticons) off the face of the earth, as their existence and continuous battles are destructive to the human race. The problem is, Attinger doesn’t care whether it’s the Autobots or the Decepticons he’s chasing down, and so all the Autobots have gone into hiding, including Optimus Prime. That is, until mechanic Cade Yeager unearths a dormant Optimus Prime, kickstarting nearly two hours of hectic action.
With all the media hype and Hong Kong being the backdrop for this movie, we know everyone is absolutely psyched to see it! Keep an eye out for these top five memorable moments:

5. When CIA agents put a gun to Tessa’s head
Heavily armed CIA agents swarm Cade Yeager’s home after receiving a tip that Autobots leader Optimus Prime is hiding in the barn. When Cade denies knowing anything about Optimus Prime’s whereabouts, the federal agents grab Tessa, throw her to the ground and point a gun to her head, threatening to kill her if he doesn’t spill the beans. OK, so we all know that they don’t actually kill Tessa, but the moment is so dramatic, you’ll be shaking in your seats.
4. When the old, rusty truck transforms into Optimus Prime
Cade has been in his research lab (aka the barn) checking out the old truck he’s just bought when Lucas, his best friend, shows up. Cade excitedly shows him and Tessa the strange properties of the truck and announces his suspicions of it actually being a Transformer. Frustrated with her father always trying to salvage ‘junk’ for his inventions, Tessa storms off towards the house. In the next split second, a missile shoots and bounces off the barn walls before heading straight into the house, missing Tessa by a hair. The look of sheer terror on Tessa’s face is priceless as she runs into the barn still shaking with fear, only to be frightened even more by the old, rusty truck transforming into Optimus Prime right before her eyes, sending metal scraps vaulting all over the place.
3. When Cade makes the connection that Shane is Tessa’s boyfriend
Cade, Tessa and Lucas have managed to free themselves from the grips of the federal agents and are running for their lives away from the terrifying situation behind them. Luckily, the three are saved by Tessa’s boyfriend, Shane, who appears out of nowhere in his racing car as their only exit plan. It’s only when they’re being chased by hoards of agents (at a very high speed) does Cade realise who Shane is, and let’s just say, Cade is not impressed. Not the best scenario for introducing your boyfriend to your overprotective Dad.
2. When Cade and Savoy fight off the side of a Hong Kong co-op building
Our palms got seriously sweaty watching Cade and Savoy, a CIA henchman, fight each other from the rooftop to the side of an old, residential building in Hong Kong. Both of them kept sliding down the building, falling on railings, washing lines and pipes - clutching to dear life. But after a series of scares, Savoy’s luck ends as he plummets to his death many feet below.
1. When the colossal alien spaceship starts destroying Hong Kong
Finally, at number one, we think it’s fair to end it with the most jaw-dropping scene: when an alien space-ship flies low over Hong Kong, sucking everything up like a vacuum, from the roof of the HKCEC to red taxis and star ferries. Look out for the scene where a green minibus gets sucked up with such force, that it causes the passengers to tip out of the windows like ragdolls. Total chaos!
