maybe this thread should have started with a definition of what a hippie is.. wasn't there an ethic behind being a hippie (flower power, free love etc)..or is this about being potheads..or just a matter of style that has no element of glamour?! haight ashbury has surely lost the link to hippie thought but you can still find a lot of gear to make you look like an unconventional thinker..
no word though on the original question of hippies en masse in HK. I wonder if they were ever here en masse, even in the 70's..

There's a couple of long term backpackers (hippie types) who have never left Travellers Hostel in Chungking Mansions since it first opened. I met some of these guys once in a pub near Chungking. The most interesting was an old guy called John The Book who ran a secondhand book business out of his dorm room.

The Chungking Mansions are the worst place to live on earth. It's on Nathan rd (should be enough of a reason), and it looks worse than it smells....that's BAD!
