    4K Cinema

OK, so I've just discovered there is such a thing as 4K Cinema (no idea how I am just finding this out now...)

It also appears that 4K is a higher (projected) resolution than IMAX (which is normally 2K equivalent when projected)

Further, it seems there are at least a couple of cinemas in HK projecting in 4K

Has anyone tried it yet? I'll probably try it tomorrow for Spectre

For those wondering, I have found the following with 4K:

Hmm are they running a Barco Alchemy Ultra Bright 4K DLP ( upto 23 metre wide screen ) or one of their DP4K 45 or 60L 6P laser projectors ( for even larger screen sizes )?

That's some serious cash outlay if they are...

Was just discussing this with the son .. he wants to watch Star Wars in 4K IMAX. (I'd assumed IMAX was already 4K .. )

That's what I thought as of about an hour ago.

So, for now at least, it appears IMAX (projected) is not the highest resolution pony at the race, it's 4K

The next step for IMAX is laser projected which will be 4K and more

Alas, there are no IMAX 4k systems in HK yet

Spectre doesn't live up to its hype I fear. Saw it last night, where the story of 007 isn't much in general, this particular one is even more flimsy than usual
Most characters, including Blofeld, just do come out right I'm very sorry to say.

Haha, hope you will feel more disappointed than you normally would after the movie

@DeletedUser @Rob2020 - how did it go? a visible improvment over the usual resolution / sound?

oh, you asked for it............ here goes:

I went to "The Sky" cinema, website

Problem 1. HUGE problem - the audio was out of sync, my guess is around 250ms - this is enough for even the least discerning of moviegoer to notice, extremely annoying - persisted throughout the entire screening - I don't know how this is even possible with a digital film.. my guess is sub-standard equipment

Problem 2. While the 4k looked great in static/low movement scenes, once there was panning involved, the image went to hell in a handbasket - very jittery, choppy - not sure if this is the same with all 4K or perhaps simply the equipment at this cinema was not up to par

Problem 3. Noisy image - looked like bad compression at times, not sure how this is possible in a theatrical release, but it certainly looked like like artifacts and noise ... not good

Oh, and the movie sucked too (I don't expect Bond movies to have tightly coherent stories, but this one... they hardly tried) - I felt all the actors were "phoning it in" - Daniel Craig, I get it, it's his last Bond, he's tired.. but Christoph Waltz, who is normally awesome really disappointed too.

and yes, I have emailed the cinema with the above complaints (haven't heard back from them yet of course...)
