What do you want to see in the new Star Trek series?

So, the news are reporting that there is going to be a new Star Trek (TV series) to be aired on CBS. Now, what do you want to see in the new series? Do you want to see it set in the alternate universe of the new Trek movies or the original universe? What about the cast? Or the starship?

Definitely the same universes for me, the lore and history line is one thing that I like to see in all the different series of Star Trek.

I want more epic size storylines/enemies like the Borg.

Then you better be off in the alternate universe. Original universe would be tied to canon Star Trek, so introduction of strong enemies (other than Romulan/Klingon) will be restrained.

Anyway: would it be very sexist if I say I want the short skirts back?

I'd like to see a more battle focused Star Trek series where Star Fleet goes to war with some bad ass adversary. Have the TV show centred around the crew of an Invincible class, multi mission combat equipped starship, the largest constructed for star fleet command.

That would be pretty cool, I reckon.

    Vaguely plausible 'science' fiction.

But then it wouldn't be Star Trek.

I'll be curious to know if the new Trek writers can come up with new villians as effective as the Borg. Let's face it, the Trek universe had lacked really menacing, effective and terrifying villians since the Borg.

The later seasons of Deep Space Nine focused on the Dominion War, some episodes had pretty impressive battle scenes between large groups of starships.

Haven't seen Deep Space 9, wasn't that centred around a space station though ? Which is probably why it never appealed to me to bother watching it.

I still think a Star Trek series centred around a Star Fleet invincible class or even better, the mighty Dreadnought Class ( USS Vengeance in the last Abrams Star Trek movie ) a ship with some seriously bad ass fire power, the ability to track and attack an enemy ship during warp plus cloaking. Now that would be very cool.

What would you like to see, @Cho-man ?

You may need to reassess your opinion of DS9, that is considered by many trekkies as the best of the "new generation" series (The Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager). True, the first two seasons were kind of...meh. But later on, when the story focuses on the Dominion War, the series became a lot more interesting to watch. You have large battle scenes between Starfleet that you would not see in the Next Generation and Voyager. DS9 focused on a central evolving narrative, which gave its plot a tension and drive that the Next Generation and Voyager lacked. It was also a lot darker and grimmer than the other Trek series too.

I agree about the first series, when it first came out I just got bored with the episodes that I did watch and discontinued watching it. However I did like Voyager.

So ok, I am going to download series 3 of DS9 and give it a go...

    Thanks @Cho-man
