There's an interesting video showing a side-by-side comparison between various scenes from the movie and different street scenes from Hong Kong. It matches up surprisingly well.

Just perfect, I love it when orientalism and white-washing make it to the big-screen.

Check out this upcoming movie with Andy Lau and Matt Damon:

Not sure how they'll spin a plot involving the great wall and white people.

Set in 15th century China, the story revolves around an elite force of soldiers who use the Great Wall to battle otherworldly creatures who are threatening mankind. The film reveals the mystery behind why the Great Wall was built, and the secrets that are kept under its stone structure.

Matt Damon plays a battle-scared mercenary in search of treasure.

Matt Damon is a missionary in China, who then gets captured by Andy Lau. Turns out Lau is a kung fu grandmaster, teaches it to Damon who learns it in no time, even beats Lau in a matter of days and sleeps with his wife too. Eventually, Damon saves Lau's people from the invading Mongols and becomes the hero. Just like Tom Cruise in the Last Samurai.

At least they had the decency to cast a Chinese person in a Chinese movie...

They played the same role in Infernal Affairs/The Departed.

Might not want to play this full volume at the workplace, but...

I hope they used Chinese mythical creatures to more accurately reflect the reality of 15th century China...
