Might explain the outrage I thought I saw on Twitter?
Looks I was not the only one who misread the tweets.

I don't understand why Disney has remade Mulan as a chinese-style martial arts film, but in English and without the original songs or characters.
Seems like this will appeal to exactly neither the Chinese nor the West??!
The movie could suck, that remains a possibility. But as to it's style, we are not certain yet, as we are only given a taste of it. As to Chinese wuxia style but with English, that could work, you never know. It all depends on execution. Wuxia does hold a certain fascination with the West, after all. Crouching Tiger and Hero did pretty well overseas. I for one look forward to it, since I am not interested in a shot-for-shot remake of the animation. This movie seems to adhere closer to the original ballad, which could be a good thing, storytelling-wise.

What do you think? Promising? Or is Mulan a bit of a "Mary Sue" here?
Well, following the lead actresses' "Shame on Hong Kong, I support the police" comment, there are new promo posters below.
I'm guessing that it will be a looooong time before any cinemas in Hong Kong will show this film.
She misspoke or choose the wrong side. Not entirely sure she understood what was going on before she spoke, or as a mainland actress she had no choice but to say stuff like that. Either way, that is disappointing, but leaving aside politics one moment, the movie could be good.
