    Keeping the kids occupied

How is everyone keeping their kids occupied in HK now with covid making a comeback? Besides going on hikes and bike rides, struggling to think of much we can do, and they're getting pretty stir-crazy now.

Picnics? Victoria Garden? The weather is nice.

Maybe contact and see if Ark Eden has anything on or if visits are welcomed:

(You can maybe ask if you can come as a family and volunteer to plant trees?)

Gather round, kiddos, and listen to the stories of my childhood. In those days, we only had ONE black and white television, and no Internet or video games. On the TV, kid friendly programs only a couple of hours per week.

Very few organized sports and such for kids, we had to MAKE our own fun- no playgrounds nearby, just wander around using our imaginations...

We would often READ BOOKS- even if not assigned by the school- or draw pictures, or write in diaries.

We would call our friends ON THE TELEPHONE...no video of the friends...

KIDS LOVE IT when you compare your deprived childhood with how lucky they are now...

Don't forget how you walked to school carrying your OWN bookbag, uphill both directions...

We had no.phone until I was 14 and then I had to.put money in a jar for each call.

Depends on the age but we play card games and old fashioned board games (ludo, snakes and ladders, goose game, chess, draughts). One of them.likes drawing or painting. But to be honest they spend way too long on their phones.

But, on a serious note, a day trip to an outlying island (Lamma and Cheng Chau being the most interesting, Peng Chau being the least crowded). Involves fun boat ride, get takeaway, picnic on beach...if you have a dog, bring said dog, have some off-leash time, no one is going to bother you.

Some restaurants with outdoor dining may accommodate a family group in two adjacent small tables, or said picnic. People bring small tents to the Peng Chau beaches (fun for the smaller kids).

Bring bicycles or rent, not extensive biking but no traffic...it's definitely an interesting day trip...

Not crowded (Peng Chau, can't speak to other places) and I think we have had only 1 covid-positive test many months ago- to the point where most visitors are wandering around, mask free.

On Cheng Chau and somewhere on Peng Chau I think you can rent kayaks if there are older children/teenagers who need to be entertained...

Also with restaurants down to two people, have a date with your kid! One on one, makes the kid feel really special.

My parents bought a subscription to the opera- three tickets, took one of the kids with them each time so it was a super big deal...with four kids we rarely got "alone time" with parents...
