I missed out on tickets but have a friend who can sell me some for a "small profit". What did they cost when bought direct? I think it was about $1000 but not sure if that was a 3-day pass or per day.

3-day tickets are $1080 at face value.
Given how hard sponsors like Cathay are trying to give them away I wouldn't pay more than face. I reckon you'll be able to pick up individual coupons outside the ground for less than face.
