Now (and no pun intended) the rocket scientists at PCCW and Netfront are telling me "it takes 5 days to release the connection from the day they terminate my connection".

Ended the conversation trying to explain the guy who called me (and boy was he polite) that I'm not interested in switching, if its going to take five days to transfer a connection which belongs to them in the first place. Takes less time and less money to go out and wire a gazillion dollars 5 times around the planet than it takes for them to switch a port or change a setting.

By the way, there is a VERY significant upgrade to the nowbroadbandtv.com site.

Good FAQs and detailed information on the channels.

Looks like the decoder comes with a DVD player built in.

Will your technician perform test on my DVD player during service installation?

Your DVD player has been tested before our field service staff goes to your premises for installation.

It may be the local way of saying '"you'd better have tested your DVD player before we get there, otherwise we won't even come"....but then I'm being cynical - I haven't had time to look at the website yet (still rotting away in office and it's 9-30pm on the eve of a long week-end!).

    You're being cynical.

There are several other references to a DVD player being a part of the box.

There are also references to P-SCAN (progressive scan), component outputs etc...

We've had a pretty smooth experience with this

We had installatoin of NOW boradband on Tuesday this week, and it's working pretty well, although they're coming to make some adjustment today (which they phoned me to tell me I needed, I didn't really notice anything wrong when they called yesterday, but now have worked out that the onscreen TV guide isn't working properly).

PCCW guys turned up within the 2 hour window that they gave me two weeks ago, all went relatively smoothly.

Our existing modem is in the study, TV loungeroom, but actually the computer and TV are "back to back" through a wall, so not too bad for connecting. We could have drilled through, but since this is a rental apt, we let them run a cord round the wall from room to room.

As this smooth service seemed to be out of the ordinary here, thought I'd let you know there is hope!

BVe, we've also confirmed from a friend that PCCW rewired their apartment and took the cable from their broadband modem (in the study) to the living room (about 4 hours work). They're definately happy with the setup.

I'm very keen to find out the quality, specially with progressive scan outputs.

    Hello,

Quite surprised to read your experiences with PCCW above. Although I am not a very old customer of theirs, they did a really good job on my now.broadband setup.

I have a netvigator account, the modem being in my study, well away from the living room (where the TV is). I had mentioned this when I signed up for this very free service.

The sales guy (Edmon Lai at their Causeway Bay shop -- I'd happily recommend him for any PCCW related services) at sign up said, the technician will figure this out when he is there, don't worry about that. So I didn't.

They even willingly made an appointment on a public holiday and showed up on time. The first thing I brought up was that the modem was a in a different room. No problem. He connected a cable from the modem to the telephone socket on the wall, where there were some extra wires in the cable. Routed that to the telephone socket in the living room and connected that to the cable converter. Voila, no external wiring, no excuses and the guy was done in less than 20 minutes and it all works like a charm.

If anyone needs any more first hand info. about this, please feel free to ask.

Nice to now that PCCW has samoe satisfied customers.
In my case I registered online 4 weeks ago and have not heard from them since except for a strange cold call trying to sell me on installing NOW, the minute I went into details and asked for printed material, the cold caller turned sour and I did not hear from her again.

NOW I find that I dont really need another set of tv channels, as I dont even bother with the channels I have now.
So I would like to thank PCCW for letting the initial euphoria of TV by broadband cool down.
