    electro indie scene in hk?

bad descriptor, i know. but couldn't find any other words for it. basically, i'm new to hk so i don't really know about any of the "scenes" just yet. lkf is great for visiting once in a while, but as we all know such places are massively overrated and overadvertised.

does anybody know any bars/clubs that are friendly to/play such music as lcd soundsystem, hot chip, M.I.A., daft punk, justice, crystal castles, MGMT etc etc?

Hey, just arrived in HK this week and also into indie music, let me know if you find any good places to go.

    Cheers,

Like the same stuff as you nini530 - been in HK 6 weeks now and not found anything yet.
Although went to see Handsome Furs play last sunday - they were amazing. Hopefully the organisers will put on more bands like this.

Let us know if you find anywhere with good music!

Hey, sound like you guys should pick up a copy of TimeOut Magazine (or check out their website). Out of all entertainment mags in HK, they cover nightlife the best. I am convinced if you LOOK you will FIND what you're after

nini530 - I love all the music you listed. I've been in HK for a bit now and haven't found any place that plays that kind of music. Perhaps I haven't been looking hard enough, but I really don't think a place like that exists here in HK. I thought LKF is so awful music-wise. My friend lived here for a year also and no luck either.

Secretninja - where were the Handsome Furs playing at? I'd love to find some new venues that play indie music. Although everyone dresses like hipsters, as far as I see, Hong Kong is pretty much dead musically on the indie front...

Handsome furs played grappas cellar which is underneath Jardine House. British Sea Power are playing there in Oct if you like them. Otherwise i think HK is not too good for good live acts.

Although the people organising these gigs 'the peoples party' look as if they might be getting things started.

I am actually a DJ by trade in London, where I also run my own weekly clubnight, and that's very much what I play mixed with some cred pop. I would love to be able to DJ in HK or even organise some indie electro nights here. I wonder if anyone has suggestions on that, thanks! basically, I would love to relocate here, and this is my job so...

I don't think there're any genre based venues in HK (unless you count cover band a genre), so yes, organisers such as Koncretebass & Magnetic Soul host events.

As far as looking, HK Magazine, Time Out, BC all have guides. One particularly good one, in my opinion is the Undergroundhk's (a local gig organiser) biweekly newsletter, although that one is almost exclusively focused on band shows.
