Featuring Tony Tyler, the CEO of Cathay, on guitar, according to the SCMP last weekend...

Could you explain a little more about the mechanism by which the $150 will be used to buy a tonne of carbon offset? Thanks.

    Hi there,

Yes indeed its the same gig.

Carbon Care Asia will be handling the offsetting side. This starts with an energy audit of the Cavern and its energy used by 4 bands in one night. As it will be too complicated to work out everyone's C02 travel footprint to and from the gig - Carbon Care Asia have agreed to buy in advance 300 tonnes of Voluntary Emission Reductions. 1 VER represents 1 ton of carbon dioxide not emitted into the atmosphere.

Carbon Care Asia only purchases VER projects following internationally recognized standards such as the Gold Standard® and VCS standard.
It is likely that the gigs carbon offsets will fund the Baicheng Wind Power in Jilin Province of northeast China. This wind farm is located in the Chaganhao Tourism and Economic Development Zone in Baicheng City of Jilin Province. It involves the installation of 40 wind turbines with a total capacity of 30MW. The project is grid-connected, whereby renewable energy thus generated is sold to the Jilin Provincial Power Company to reduce its reliance on coal-fired energy common in northeast China.

By producing clean energy, the wind farm helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, the project also creates green jobs and avoids work casualties during coal production. The offsets are VERs in a CDM project registered with the UNFCCC.

I hope this has answered your question.

    Thanks

    Ciara

That's one KICKIN' band, indeed - with riveting raspy vocals when appropriate and serious sax.
