Paying $82 for a pint is just insane in the first place! Why would you want to do that?

I guess the staff thought that if you had enough money to burn to pay that much anyway then another $18 wouldn't be missed.

One thing I object to is when they hide the notes under the receipt thinking if you are drunk enough you won't notice. Had that twice now.

Where do they charge HK$ 82 for a pint? Just so I know never to go there.

Only having been there once to meet friends, so didn't know the prices beforehand. Suffice to say, it'll probably be a while before I go back there again.

unless they charge you 10%, i don;t think you need to tip at all.

    WOW

So many of you have such ridiculous justifications for not giving tips. The fact is you're all just cheapos.

Waiters often do not make more than convenience store clerks. Tips are part of their wages. It's what makes it worth it for them to work at a bar/restaurant rather than a convenience store.

are you talking about Hong Kong or elsewhere? You know in HK, tips usually don't go to the server?

I was referring to people who say they never tip.

There are, of course, many places where tipping just doesn't make sense (ie they auto-charge 10% on the bill, typical restaurants where staff get a small portion, etc).

I wonder as for HK what makes it worth for them to work at a bar/restaurant rather than a convenience store.

So what? Or let me ask you this way: do you tip the clerk at the convenience store you mention below? Why not, since he also earns as little - not giving the clerk serving you a tip makes you look like a hypocrite, or are waiters somehow "better people" ao they deserve tips and others don't?

Their choice. If they don't want to work as a waiter because they get no tips they can work at the convenience store instead, too.
