    Advice with Horse Racing tomorrow.

Looking to go horse racing tomorrow at Happy Valley with a small group. Want to know the following:

    1) I heard the cost is $10 before 8:30PM. Does the $10 give me access to the beer garden?

    2) Which is the best entrance to enter? Where is it?

    3) What other options do I have? For example I know you can pay more for a members area but I heard there are other places I can go at the racetrack for different prices.

    4) Any other tips/advice?

Hmmm - I've been twice but can't remember how we got in ... i think "follow the crowd" is your best bet! If I recall, we paid 10 or 15 (octopus turnstile) and certainly had access to places selling heaps of beer (and unhealthy snacks ).

The entrance is at the far end of the stand - yes, just follow the crowd past all the members entrances. You walk straight into the public area where the beer is.

There are plenty of other places to go if you want to pay more, but the $10 option is a great place to start.

Just keep walking past the grandstand until it runs out and you will see a load of turnstiles. That get's you into the beer garden area. Costs $10. Also allows access to the parade ring and winners area so you can get really involved if you want.

Or just find a place to stand with a pint and shout at the last placed horse like I do.

If you've never been it's the best place to start.

Thanks for all the good info. Here's a little breakdown of what I learned last night (for future reference):

    - The general entrance is Entrance G. It's on Wong Nai Road diagonally across from the Hong Kong Sanatorium/Hospital and kind of below the entrance of the Aberdeen Tunnel. If you plan to walk from Causeway Bay MTR the shortest way is to just go around the racetrack in the direction of the Aberdeen Tunnel side. Not a bad walk (about 15 minutes) but if you plan to meet friends I would say meeting in Happy Valley would be smarter. Just shortens the walk significantly.

    - They only accept cash and octopus cards (no credit card) at the race track (for bets/food/drinks etc) so plan accordingly. They do have a Hang Seng and Bank of China ATM there as well but bringing cash ahead of time helps.

    - Apparently the beer garden at the race track is a major expat hangout. Never knew.

    Fun night.
