    A conundrum ....

I need to get my sister a birthday present.

She's 40+, married with 1 kid, does not earn much and has had money problems in the past.

I saw this book listed on Facebook by a friend of mine...

    http://www.amazon.ca/Money-Rules-Gai...2935855&sr=1-7

.. and it immediately 1) made me think of my sister and 2) reminded me I need to buy her a present.

Now... do you think buying her a book on budgeting would be a welcome gift or an insult? Because my brain functions completely differently from hers and I can't decide!

I have a couple of Canadian friends who swear by Gail Vaz-Oxlade. Only seen a couple of her shows but she's a straight talker.

But as for your sister... is she the kind to easily take offence, or does she welcome advice (at lest on other matters)?

That's like giving a fat person a diet book! Offense may be taken.

This is my concern. (She's fat too which makes buying her clothes equally hard!)

Even if she asks you to recommend a book on budgeting, you don't give it as a gift.

But if she asks for a book on budgeting as a gift...

Can I suggest something like designer make up, or skin beauty products?

It's something for her alone, she may want as a luxury and that she wouldn't normally "waste" money on.

Agree with the theme, but I hate wasting money myself and consider such products to be the epitome of frivolous! I might just be able to get over the line on make-up..... but still not sure what type might be most suitable.
