Or it can be both an obsession and a cliché.

Just because its a cliché doesn't make it false, as they say.

The Brazilian obsession is Youtube and Pop-stars. Go to any Justin Beiber or Rihanna or One Direction videos and you will be sure to find "PLEASE COME TO BRAZIL~~*****".

The obvious question here is what are you doing watching and reading comments on Justin Beiber and One Direction videos?

I would have thought the following,

    India - mobile phones
South Korea - beauty products/ cosmetics and cosmetic surgery
    Mainland China - K Pop
    Sweden - home decorating
Norway - dodging moose straying onto roads.
Australia - upholding the "tall poppy syndrome", and " my engine holds more power than yours" attitude. Weird food trends.
Hong Kong - constant selfie taking with what meal the photo taker is about to eat or infront of random objects, like road signs, them posting them on their FB page. Communication solely via smsing.
New Zealand - wine, sheep and rugby. Not necessarily in that order.
Middle East - supercars, fashion labels.

    British: time
    HK : money
Philippines: sex, gambling, religion (the first two give them plenty to confess for the third)

Hong Kong's obsession with fucking people's mothers?

    Is that one?

Whether locals have a friendly conversation or having an argument.. they constantly repeat "diu lei lo mo".
    Like what the hell?

Can't go anywhere without someone's mother getting fucked.

    For... research purposes, Walter!

Nah. I used to read Reddit pretty often. People drop the reference there all the time. Its not just pop bands, since they allowed the upvote button on Youtube, many videos of singers and bands have them too. I also recall one Beatles video with it. But you know, half of the Beatles can't really grace Brazil with their presence now.
