The power of Pelosi : what is the source ?

Yesterday, a bolshy congresscritter from Florida made a comment that many took to be a threat and witness tampering.

He was called out by many and he went on to double and triple down on his comments. He basically didn't care that he was potentially getting himself into legal hot water.

3 hours later, Pelosi made a statement which didnt mention him by name but everyone knew what she was on about.

A couple of hours after that, like a good boy, the congresscritter humbly apologised.


I know that Pelosi is the speaker of the house : what I dont know is how she was able to bring this twit to heel. What power does she hold over him that she was able to smack him down in such an effective manner ?

The Philippine Congress is based on the USA system so I guess it is the same situation. The Speaker can control committee chairmanship, vice-chairs, etc. Extremely powerful position with a lot of clout.

Ummm, now does speaker of the house control re-election campaign money? I wasnt aware this is something under that job.....

Nothing is so direct and the congressman raises a lot of his own but I saw a show on how the DNC and RNC do the fundraising (the congress people are raising money from day 1 in office- they have off-site offices nearby where they make fundraising calls). If you don't play nicely, they can easily cut you off...everything is about money at the end of the day...
