Not a mac pro here, so not understanding the issue, and hence this silly question: couldn't you simply do a computer search of powerpoint template files (ie *.potx, .potm and .pot, and delete the offending templates?

For some reason that we still don't know, only Macs found these hidden templates - all the PC users were not affected. It was bizarre. Then every time we deleted it dropbox copied it back again because it was coming from someone else's computer... so now my IT guy has set up a macro to delete it automatically. (because sometimes that's easier than getting our staff to toe the line on what they sync to dropbox!)
You can also set a read only permission on the templates folder, or at least read only for the staff and you and IT have full access.

Unrelated entirely but if anyone ever needed to hide the Ark of the Covenant, Lord Lucan, Coca-Cola's ingredient X, the seven secret herbs and spices or the actual frequency of the brown sound, the best way to protect these from human eyes would be to ask the HK government to make them accessible through their integrated web platform. Never, never use the search function on a .gov.hk website.

Never use the search function of any website. Use Google or duckduckgo with a "site:geoexpat.com" parameter

I did that. They just came back. (and now I realise they were coming from a different person's dropbox, this explains that!)

Sadly dropbox does not have this functionality.
