    I think what it was, and why it was so popular, was a remarkably detailed build up of a society and how people within that society gained or lost due to their actions. If you were only interested in individual characters, sure, not as good as some others. But if you take a step back and look at it from a societal perspective, its quite remarkable. At least until the books ended.

    Yeah, complicated story, lots of good twists and turns, hidden societal connotations, etc. Definitely

    is the one who didn't understand what it was. Also a large budget show where the writing was pretty convincing until the end. But to each their own. Some people enjoy the HK dramas. No show has a 100% universal appeal.
