    Too many grumpies, including myself, on GeoExpat for dislike buttons to be of any productive use.

    I remember the dislike function, I think they were called "the red and green blobs"

    Whilst they were a bit OTT sometimes, they definitely also had their upsides.

    Yes some users got heavily red blobbed but never changed their posting content though.

    Off long and hazy memory, it did have the upside of flagging deliberate troll accounts in a much more obvious fashion, whereas these days they tend to hide behind a veneer of civility. Admittedly, fewer trolls back then.

    Wouldn't be workable these days, I suspect, given how much more argumentative and divisive the forum seems to be.

    There's also the downside that the system probably encouraged even more groupthink back then.
