I think Palin is, at best, of average intelligence and only slightly above average understanding of political, social, and economic issues - and we should consider the meaning of the word 'average' which is really quite low. So, while I also believe that pure intelligence is overrated, she quite obviously isn't suited to be leader of anything, much less, 'the free World'. Still, it's a bit unfair to compare Palin to Hanson since Hanson is sort of a racist/nativist and I've never heard anything about Palin that would cause me to think that she is a racist.

In one respect though, you are completely correct - both are niche policiticians without a chance in Hell of becoming national leaders who received attention far in excess of their political attainments.

Even though I don't share Hanson's views at all, thank goodness she is not censored by the Aussie media and people are able to evaluate her politics for themselves and challenge them if they wish.

Back in the mid 90's it was hilarious to see quite a few of my 4th generation Australian born Chinese friends wearing One Nation T-shirts, an absolute cack up it was.

If my memory serves me correctly, Pauline Hanson also holds FULL British citizenship too, but then again, a 3rd of the Australian population if not more, hold multiple citizenships, including my family so I doubt the dark days of the white Australia policy will ever happen again. That doesn't mean that things haven't gone the other way, that for some reason that anybody with western European appearance is called racist when having a disagreement with any other ethnic group of darker complexion or more staunch religious beliefs . Seems to be how some insecure/immature ethnic groups like to behave, "OH YOU DISAGREE WITH ME, YOU'RE A RACIST".. !

Seems to be the way it is these days, and don't you just love it when certain ethnic groups try and blame you for what your great, great grand fathers generation did, like that has any relevance today ? Reverse racism under the guise of western govt, affirmative action....
