    ? maybe they have a different terminology here in Aus. I wasnt paying that much attention - just said the wind was blowing it north (possibly a different term?)

    Yes and the quickest between Aust and South America is flying close to the polar caps under the world, not across it.

    Qantas just cancelled all flights into and out of Perth from 1pm this afternoon. I have a colleague flying in from Singapore on Singapore airlines - his flight is on "watch". Cathay's flights are not showing anything right now, but they note we should check flight status regularly. I'm due to fly home on Thursday night; and hoping I do not have to run the meeting my colleague is flying in for tonight!

    I was supposed to fly from Melbourne to New Zealand on Monday.
    I'd been roughing it near Melbourne for a few days, no tv or internet, so I had no idea that there were any problems. When I arrived at the airport I was rather surprised to find all almost flights cancelled.
    Most international flights were still operating, not to NZ of course, so I came home to HK instead.
