Megaupload threatens to sue Universal over YouTube video

    See The Guardian

    and the video:

What got my interest was this:

Megaupload is not exactly a friend of the major labels. The Recording Industry Association of America and US Chamber of Commerce have described the Hong Kong-based service as a "rogue website", facilitating music piracy.
But when I go to MEGAUPLOAD

    I get this message:

This service is temporarily not available from your service area.
    What's going on?

A little research gives me this:

I think that Megaupload, based in Hong Kong, might have been threatened by local media companies, or just decided to avoid controversy, so they block local users.

BTW Megaupload has already brought an action against Universal. Universal claim not all the artists on the video had given their permission.

It can also be for tax purposes. If mega upload has no trading activity in Hong Kong, they don't have to pay any profits taxes to the IRD.
