    Christopher Hitchens is Dead

The Hitch is dead, and I don't think we will ever see his like again. Today's polemicists are too blinkered by political ideology to be anywhere near as interesting as Hitchens, who fully deserved his reputation as a latter-day Orwell. Like Orwell, he is gone much too soon.

Perhaps The Onion has the best obit:

Fumbling, Inarticulate Obituary Writer Somehow Losing Debate To Christopher Hitchens | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

    Then there is this:

14 Christopher Hitchens Quotes to Remember Him By | The Stir

Most of today's issue of Slate is devoted to Hitch:

Slate Magazine - Politics, Business, Technology, and the Arts - Slate Magazine

If Hitchens was wrong and there is a God, God is probably losing an argument with Hitchens at this moment.

I always liked his comment on George W.

"[George W Bush] is lucky to be governor of Texas. He is unusually incurious, abnormally unintelligent, amazingly inarticulate, fantastically uncultured, extraordinarily uneducated, and apparently quite proud of all these things." – Hardball with Chris Matthews, NBC, 2000

Cockburn was simply jealous. Hitchen's was able to transcend all those old left shibboleths and look at issues in a new light. Cockburn and his comrades at the Nation hate an apostate (appropriate word since leftism is a cult like any other mindless political belief) but even more, Cockburn hated that Hitchens had surpassed him and made him irrelevant.
