    Simulated CE vote

    RTHK English News

"The director of the Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme, Robert Chung, has defended his plan to stage a public vote on chief executive candidates - two days before the real election. Pro-Beijing media organisations have attacked the plan, saying it is inciting independence for Hong Kong.
Dr Chung denied that the exercise - which is called a civil referendum project - is aimed at challenging the Basic Law. He said voters could cast ballots at polling stations, or vote online after giving their full ID card numbers and their mobile numbers for a confirmation code.

He said privacy issues will be dealt with stringently and a turnout of 100,000 would be very satisfactory."

I don't think most of us can understand the enormous pressure and threats people like Dr Chung face everyday from Pro-Beijing camp and media publicly and privately. Their language is full of fallacies and yet so beauitifully written and incendiary.

I think we have been living in 1984 for quite a while.

We can't have people inciting independence for Kong Kong at any cost. This man should be arrested and jailed immediately.

Speaking of which did you see the article in today's SCMP " Trio jailed for 10 years for criticizing Jiang Zemin"?
A 71 yo and his 71 yo wife, with a 58 yo associate were jailed for up to 10 years after a trial held in secret, for writing a series of articles critising JZ.

Aren't the Commies a wonderful bunch!

I rather hoped you would have taken my comment with the huge pinch of salt with which it was made. I failed.

For the record I think this vote is a fantastic idea, and I will certainly cast my "vote" as well.

I also hope that Dr. Chung gets away with this as I agree he must be under huge pressure from the pro Beijing mob. It would not be at all surprising if we read in a few months time that Dr Chung has left his post as a director of HKU for "health reasons"

Should have put a smirk smiley at end of my last post.

Hope they can achieve the donation target in few weeks.
