Don't confuse Westminster with the general populace. Early on there was talk of a referendum for all in the UK. Salmond rejected that when it was polled that there'd possibly be an overwhelming yes in England as opposed to a minority yes being polled in Scotland at the time. It'd be one thing for the sweaties to vote to pull out of the UK, it'd be another if the English voted to kick them out. Can you imagine Salmond explaining that one?

The left wing Labour party gets a lot of it's British Parliament votes from Scotland so it really needs the Union to stay together. The Tories would probably benefit from the split but recognise that it doesn't seem to make economic sense to allow part of the Union to go off on its own

UKIP probably doesn't have a policy yet and the Lib Dems only go as far north as Sheffield so are irrelevant in the debate.

The BBC would probably want a split to avoid those annoying non-London stories from having to be shown.

Great! I was in Glascow for two days in the sixties, when my US Navy plane somehow developed a mechanical problem...... and we had to make an emergency landing at Prestwick.... I look forward to going back again soon, and this time I will visit the family castle.

Isn't London the biggest net beneficiary from the chancellor? Perhaps the UK could vote to allow London self determination. King Boris anyone?
