Twitter works for many people, to dismiss it as only for short-attention span readers either means you are following the wrong people, or you don't use it.

Back to the OP, following google's refusal to filter Youtube videos, turkey are now blocking all Google DNS. I can only see this backfiring on them, take away people's access to information and they know something is dodgy.

Google has told Turkey where to stick it now as well as twitter. The first country in the world to block google DNS and now they are blocking as many VPNs as they can find. Not quick enough mind you to stop a recorded phone call of the prime ministers son having phone sex with one of his mistresses.
Prime Minister made a claim at a big rally in front of 100,000s of uneducated sheep that he will destroy twitter and its roots. This guy is a class act.

ErdoÄŸan is making the mistake of shooting the messenger while simultaneously shooting himself in the foot.

He has been doing it for years and he knows he can get away with it as he has ripped the military apart and has millions of follower who don't care how many shoeboxes of cash he has stashed in his house. One of the famous phone calls was him telling his son to shift the 'remaining' 30 million euros out of his sons house. God knows how much was in there to start with but who the hell keeps 30 million plus euros in cash in their house??
To think this is a country in the process of joining the EU (if ever) yet their human rights record and press freedoms is astonishing.
My wife actually had a business meeting with him a number of years ago and all he was interested is trying to get her to buy products from his closest mates.

And also a country with the highest number of journalists in jail, more than Iran or China. http://cpj.org/reports/2013/12/secon...ournalists.php

I support their entry to the EU, but it shouldn't proceed until the Turkish government accepts that freedom of speech and access to information is a basic right.

Erdogan is not a man to be trusted.

"Democracy is like a tram. You ride it until you arrive at your destination, then you step off." This from a man who called the EU 'anti-democratic'.

Because anyone who is critical of erdogan or his club gets sacked or put away. The problem is that he has too many uneducated masses that follow him and as long as he keeps buying them bread, giving them free coal etc then they are going to vote for this tyrant. He will win the locals and mayor elections this weekend and he is trying to change the constitution so he can stay further then the current 3 term limit.

Anyone that demands to people to not drink beer and drink ayran (salty yoghurt drink) instead is not to be trusted. He also used in parliament last year in a televised speech the N word and insulted black people.
