Yup leave them to it and if they get splatted by a minibus its not your problem.

Why is it that they walk reasonably straight but as soon as they answer the phone they start walking like a drunken sailor in wanchai?

I'd also leave them to their own devices and if they get themselves injured or killed, oh well.

On their phone they no longer pay attention to what's in front and they start to wander. It's easier to walk a straight line if you keep your head and focus up.
