Like I said, read what I posted carefully. I said the Chinese press was right to point out that UK is a little island with delusions of former glory...only that it was very much out-of-date. As in not the present situation.

I wonder if that building's resemblance to a certain...ahem "thing" is meant to compensate for a lack a corresponding..."thing" among the Chinese media barons that most men possess.

It is the the privilege of the "Nouveau Riche" to look like twats from time to time and expose their lack of education. It wasn't so many years ago that they wouldn't even know what the British Empire was, even more how it evolved like no other Empire before it.

Put visually, The British Empire knows how to dress smartly, we look GOOD in a tailored ensemble. Have you SEEN a mainlander trying to dress smartly in a cheap suit, where he looks good only in his own mind?

Que pictures of people in bad taste attire, but you get where I am going with this.

Better to have ruled and lost than never to have ruled at all

Come to think of it, what do I like about modern Britain? I do like its museums and historical sites, but they are history. I must think real hard if there is anything worthy of admiration today. The Royal Family? Heck no. Royal Navy? Hmm..my late grandfather was a Brit and served in the Royal Navy during WW2. But the Royal Navy today has sadly shrunken almost to irrelevance thanks to savage defence cuts. British sense of humour? Hmmm...sometimes.

What is the UK good at? Honest question. Let's see, mass manufacturing, nope that is history. Leading-edge innovation and discoveries? Perhaps a lot in the past, but not much at the present. Its state of infrastructure? Who are we kidding? Its a laggard when it come to high speed railways and you Brits invented the railway! Popular and great literature books (written in the last 10 years)? I guess there are some, but there just as many in the States and Canada.

Hmmm....yes, I really like its cars, some of them anyway. Jaguar and Mini, XF and the F coupe...nice, but oops, they are owned by foreigners now. How about Rolls Royce, not British-owned either. Well I suppose they are still British-made. Ah yes. Aston Martin. DB9, baby. Yes, I found what i like about Britain, luxury toys made there. What other luxury toys do the Brits make? Yachts for the mega rich. Sunseeker and Princess Yachts do make really fine boats... of course, Sunseeker is owned by the Chinese and Princess is owned by the French. But they are still built in Britain and mostly British managed, so I'll pretend they are still British brands .

Oh wait, last but certainly not least. Premier League. I like it very much. You Brits got me hooked onto it. Grrrr....

WC-we have some of the finest football hooligans in the world, and also a population that is almost a leader in the obesity stakes.

    Think of the positives!

Except NOT ... but maybe to those with no understanding of the British.

We understand our heritage but we do not crave to recreate it. ALL the lands for which we had domain are better for it and mature in governments, whether we agree how they have grown or not. All are the Commonwealth of Nations whom individually are small and weaker than those superpowers who would claim domain, but together are strong and can reply on equal terms to these wannabe Emperors. The British do not claim commissions or glory for this but are quietly satisfied for the days work.

British glory is written down in a thousand books of times going back 500 years AND HOW WE GAVE OUR LANDS BACK TO THOSE WHO ASKED. That we were never conquered. We are content in our hearts to have understood what we did and those who would say we dream of glory past only speak a tongue that is not native and misinterpret the dream that is understood by us as memory past and not of futures wanted.

All others can go f*** themselves because God is truly at our right hand and has been for a thousand years.
