Prime Minister's Question Time from Yesterday

If you start at 21:35 you will see the British Prime minister on his high horse preaching about reform of governance controls. Many very serious subjects were discussed in the session but this seemed to get the most passionate response.

We gave up our delusions of grandeur ages ago.

That's one characteristic of us British that provides us with moral fortitude and a correctness of behaviour.

That is why England is certain to win the World Cup

I wonder, does a self deprecating sense of humor delivered in a dead-pan or tongue-in-cheek way sometimes gets confused for actual self belief.

Dont dash their hopes and dreams....
Dreams of a world cup win...
Dreams of getting their passport back....
Given enough time, both are likely

I'm really not so sure about either of those.

What makes me laugh is the fact that China is meant to be this economic superpower, yet it still resorts to what amounts to petty name calling. all very silly.

So is Terry Wogan, but I think of him as part of Britain. (not a very significant part, but still)

I don't know why people are arguing and getting their knickers in a twist here.
Its a country with something in the past to make them proud of themselves and someting in the future to look forward to, and a present which is the offspring of their past, just like any other country in the world.
I find comments such as "what have they done/achieved in last xx years?". No one country has ever managed to stay on top, every country goes through a golden period ever since the history has been written, and make contribution to the world, then someone else comes along and take the center stage and contributes. Isn't that how the world moves on?
