Dash cam video of the explosion from one of the streets. Driver is being told by his friends to go that way, no go that way causing even more confusion, if it were me I would have told the passengers to STFU

Is it just that street? Or adjacent streets as well?

For anyone who reads Chinese, this facebook page has practical info if you are concerned about people. (I believe, I can't read it myself)

They are saying it was not natural gas, but gas from local industrial plants including ethylene and propane (which burns hotter than nat gas).

That is actually an interesting point. The actual Kaohsiung metropolitan region (i.e. the urban area) is on the southwest coast of Taiwan, the city is after all a major sea port. Although Kaohsiung City area (the area falling under the city's jurisdiction-which includes the rural areas) actually covers well inland into the mountains. The Daily Mail shows the area of explosion in that inland location rather than the main city area at the coast. So either the explosion actually occurred in that suburban area inland or they got it wrong.

Before I dismiss Daily Mail for getting it wrong, TVB also showed that inland area rather than the coastal city area, so I'm not so sure now.
