Chinese nationals accused of taking SATs for others

A bit like Fifa and corruption: something every knows is happening, but it has taken a long time for action to begin to be taken.

U.S. Schools Expelled 8,000 Chinese Students for Poor Grades, Cheating: Survey - China Real Time Report - WSJ

No comparative data so not sure if this is a good or bad figure. Makes for a nicely xenophobic headline regardless.

In a commentary based on the survey, the state-run Guangming Daily said that the fact that thousands of students were expelled was not surprising given the large numbers of students in the U.S. It added that different education standards and different attitudes toward unacceptable behavior were partlyto blame
    .

How can one have different attitudes to something that is unacceptable?

I meant it semantically. If something is determined as unacceptable, how can you have a different attitude to it.

The cheating thing is generational and so much is driven by Google copy paste. Rather than understand something, it is easier to copy paste.

Precisely. 8000 out of how many? The total number of Chinese students in US exceed 100,000 if I am not mistaken.

I take some of that generational accusation back!

Thought about what happened when I went to uni and the cheating thing was very much an Asian thing... Indians, Chinese. Was pretty much an outcast because I refused to share my work with some of the lazy arse holes.

Cho man, close to 500000 Chinese students. Lower acceptance standards by many unis as they pay full tuition.

This is not correct for the US. In the UK overseas students pay higher fees than EU students. In the US the only universities that have different prices are state universities where only in-state residents get a discounted tuition rate. So someone from New York and China pay the same to attend University of Virginia, but a person from Virginia pays less.

True, but less pressure on the unis to offer I'm house financial aid, as the kids will be able to cough up full tuition, room and board.

On my mobile. But will take some time over the weekend to find the average revenue per user for intl vs out if state vs in state.
