Hong Kong: Police abuses nullified by Beijing's ’alternative’ declaration of human rights

read: "the so-called 'inalienable rights' of PRC subjects can and will be suspended when they infringe upon CCP's inalienable right to rule by dictatorship". But hey, it's good to be king and have the inalienable right to create any law one pleases and then rule by those laws...
Iran, North Korea, and Syria signed up to that declaration? Wonderful, I feel so reassured already.

The major task of the Chinese president is to handle the American president, and Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were handled.

He (Xi) failed to bring Donald Trump under control with promises of future meetings and postponed studies.
As a result, China is in a trade war with its largest customer. In addition, quite apart from the trade issue, the Chinese financial system is unstable and growth is slowing.

Now, Hong Kong is out of control, and the global talk is of Chinese concentration camps. This is not what was expected from Xi.

Interesting article by a Australian journalist who spent 3 years in Bejing and has also covered the Hong Kong protests.

Freedom is Restraint: How Core Socialist Values are Changing Language and Remoulding Humans

In the Xi Jinping era, China is quietly embedding core socialist values into every aspect of life, including the judicial system. When core socialist values were introduced in 2013, they sounded like one more slogan in the pantheon of forgettable party dogmas, but now they're gaining teeth. In this episode we examine how core socialist values are recoding language, legitimising CCP rule and could even pose a threat to Western civilisation. To explore what these values mean and how they are reshaping the way China is governed, Louisa and Graeme are joined by Delia Lin of the University of Melbourne.
