    Random acid attack in London

Two parents, aged 40 and 36, were walking in Islington with their two-year-old son when a man approached them and threw acid in the father’s face.

The corrosive liquid also splashed onto the woman and their son.

Police say the victim’s injuries are “life-changing”, but not life threatening. The woman and child suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from hospital.

Police are urging anyone with information to step forward as they work to determine the motive and what substance was used.

The Metropolitan Police revealed that there has been a sharp rise in the number of acid attacks in the capital, from 261 in 2015 to 454 the following year.

It's gang related. Carrying acid isn't illegal, carrying knives and guns are.

Not much more info but damn...

London Fire Brigade said tests had shown the unknown liquid had a PH level of 1 making it a "strong acid and oxidising substance”.

Isn't this a simple thing to change? Are there many legitimate reasons to be carrying acid?

In principle - yes, the so called drain unblocking liquids are mainly made of acids as far as I know. But I don't see why the law cannot be changed accordingly. Even today it's perfectly legal to buy a kitchen knife in Tesco's and carry it home to chop some salad for the dinner. But not to carry it around in order to stick into people! So next time police find a youth loitering with some acid in a bottle in the back pocket of his trousers maybe they should be able to arrest him.
