Just like any politicians, you can take stuff that he has done well and stuff that he has messed up. You generally speak like you are his press secretary so it's hard to take it seriously. My personal view is that to become the leader of a country(or a business, or anything of significance), you need to be morally compromised, it's part and parcel of the job. Some more than others obviously but there's no one on earth that I would support and defend they way you do with Duterte, not even family members or friends.

Because I like facts. All that appears on here is a pile of gossip and false information based on media reports. I counter that. Perhaps if I didn't face stuff about the media being closed down, opposition imprisoned, Duterte is a drug lord with billions stashed away, casinos being built, bodies piling up in the street, people living in fear - just a constant series of false stories - perhaps then I would not be so defensive.

And S&P just upgraded to BBB+ the highest credit rating they have ever awarded the Philippines. Next step up is an A level rating.

I am sure someone said the Philippines would soon end up as another Venezuela with its massive debts and crumbling economy

Another quarter and satisfaction with the administration reaches a record high since the survey began in the 1980s.

    Satisfied 81%, disatisfied 9%.

11 issues surveyed, all very positive. The biggest was "helping the poor".

Canada has now made a formal offer to take back the waste. The Philippines had given a deadline of May 15th. "Delicate negotiations" are under way so no details released. I guess it is over money.

If I lived in Manila I couldn't wait to get out. If you expect a perfect live don't move to the overcrowded capital of a developing country.

Just for facts, the water outages affected a small percentage (5%?) And they all got zero bills for March after Duterte told them to turn the fucking taps on. It is dry season and El Nino but more relevant the water company having problems is owned by a Liberal Party oligarch and it is election season. They were hit with a massive fine, their COO was fired, bills for March were zeroed and the water started flowing again miraculously.

No idea on Meralco, owned by the same oligarch I think.

BPI I seem to remember had a technical glitch but you know those IT people in banks.

Yes everything is terrible TB. The place is collapsing. The economy is in tatters, people are cowering in their slums scared to venture outside. If I were you I wouldn't come here - but you do don't you for holidays? Strange that.

Here is one I am sure you support TB, it is anti-Duterte and in a reputable paper. The earthquakes in the Philippines are because God is angry with Duterte .

The Inquirer is the main Liberal Party paper in the Philippines and the main source, together with Rappler, of 'news' for foreign media.

Btw is has just been revealed that Rappler, Vera Files, PCIJ, CMFR all receive funding from the National Endowment for Democracy (a.k.a. CIA). Rappler has two defences for this. "It is good to receive foreign funding because it reduces domestic pressure" and "well the government also receives foreign funding".

Can you imagine if it was found that Huffpost, NYT etc received funding from the Chinese government?

What does the US government expect in return for their money?

Canada has now agreed to fully pay for the shipment of the toxic waste. They could have done that years ago, shame it took someone to shout at them.

Meralco is a surprisingly well run company. The outages are not their fault, due to failure in the generation units they don't own. But there has been very few outages and less than the past when power was out for days at a time. The new electricity market would work better if the regulator let it, but the overly cautious legal approach of the ERC has delayed building a lot of power stations in the past couple of years which is going to come home to roost soon. That approach predates duterte but he's not fixed it either.

Met a hydro generation company yesterday. They manage water for both power and drinking. Said this year was very dry, not at all normal.
