That is not to say that there wasn't anything in them now, or who might have restocked them...
Or that they built new ones, or had other ones all the time.

In this instance, the government I wouldn't trust is Putin. He's been trying to escalate things for months. What better way to provoke Trump than breach a line that Obama said was not to be crossed, then when it was , did nothing about it. And in rides Trump to save the day and show America means what it says.

Besides, May is far too busy making her mark by destroying the country with 'Brexit Means Brexit', she doesn't appear to have much spare capacity to add international subterfuge to bring on a global war. And Macron is just Macron, if he thinks it's popular he's in, facts not required.

Do you know how difficult it is to build such facilities without anyone knowing, in the age of satellite and drone monitoring? Stocking a site is one thing, building something another. Besides, the agencies appear to be using 'chemical site' and 'military target' interchangeably. It will probably be far more of the generalised latter than the specific former.

Well, we can all step out of the fallout shelter now.

The West sent bombs that bombed nothing much, the Russians sat on their hands not engaging their air defence system while watching the bombs that weren't going to hit anything much hit a few empty buildings, the Syrian regime probably opened a bottle of wine and watched the pretty lights.

Everyone's honour was saved, and I stocked up on gin just in case, so smiles all round, except for the civilians of Syria for who are still dying in a pointless war.

Walk away militarily. Syria is now a proxy for a war between Putin and the West. Should never have gotten involved in the first place, should definitely have left when Russia entered the arena.

The West needs to work with surrounding countries and pour aid and skills into the humanitarian effort. Let those that need it have a dignified existence out of the war zone, and especially to let the children have a childhood and education. Seems the West can coordinate wars but not help.
