I have a friend who is a statistician and has published a couple of books and has a well-regarded blog, teaches at an Ivy League, etc. His general thesis is that raw numbers/data can be made to support just about anything.

Indeed South Koreans are so sanguine nowadays that parts of the DMZ near Seoul have become major tourist attractions. . . There is even a small funfair, which seems bizarre, but Kathy reckons that South Korea’s government wants to show its people the stark reality of the DMZ to bolster diminishing public support for huge military budgets, national service and reunification. ‘The tourists see the security threat that South Korea still faces, and the tragedy of the division, in a very visceral way,’ she explains. They are certainly moved.

Been to Seoul and have heard about the tunnels from friends - but didn't visit myself; they told me some of them were wide enough to drive a tank through.

I also found this quote interesting - didn't realise Hamas had help from North Korea when building the tunnels in Gaza.

and helped Hamas build numerous tunnels into Egypt from the Gaza Strip
