Former Filipino Ombudsman barred from Hong Kong

I am not really in favour of refusing entry to people but honestly if you go to the ICC and accuse the President of China of crimes against humanity and then very soon afterwards go to China on vacation what do you expect?

(She was allowed entry after 3 hours but went home instead).

Had she been Chinese she would have been spirited across the border and later made a televised confession of her crimes.

5 years ago it would probably not of mattered what she said where in Hong Kong as Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was enforced rather than Lèse-majesté.

Am not aware of who she is and what her case in the ICC is. Saw this headline on the same site:

Don't understand a fair bit of what her quotes are, but something to the effect that her phones have been "hacked" and this could have happened as long as 2 years ago or is she saying that they got hacked while she was in HK?

She was the former Ombudsman - a very powerful position in the Philippines with the power to imprison and disqualify politicians.

Her ICC case is that Xi, as ruler of China, is guilty of crimes against humanity for Chinese actions in the SCS. (Neither China nor the Philippines are members of the ICC and as far as I am aware no one has been killed).

The phone hacking is something she has just come up with without providing any support for the claim. No idea why she would be bugged, she has no power or influence any more she is just a retired civil servant.

Showed up on RTHK. Don't think there is any more info in there than what has already been published elsewhere.

Carpio-Morales, 77, is a former Supreme Court associate justice and head of the Ombudsman anti-corruption agency. She retired from government service last year. In March, she and former foreign secretary Albert del Rosario filed a complaint against Xi and other officials over Beijing's assertive actions in the South China Sea, which they say deprived thousands of fishermen of their livelihoods and destroyed the environment.

He is either a fool or it was a stunt.

Firstly he argues he is on a diplomatic passport so refusal is against the Geneva Convention. Silly old git, not if you are no longer diplomat and not on official business (he was attending a business meeting). Trying to enter on a diplomatic passport was therefore probably grounds to refuse him. He says he is going to sue, good luck on that.

Secondly he was the second signatory to the ICC case against Xi, he saw the other one, Morales, being refused entry but it seems not to have occurred to him that he might also be rejected.

I don't like people being refused entry but honestly I think this was just a stunt.
