Gina Lopez, one of the world's truly good people died yesterday aged 65.

Born into one of the Philippine's richest and most powerful familes (they own the main TV station among many other things) she gave that all up to help the poor in Africa living in the slums while setting up schools.

She returned to the Philippines and her family setting up their charity foundation. Through her energy, passion and charm she transformed attitudes to the environment and her legacy will be long lasting.

Her single message was love for each other and the environment. She was very popular and supported by all political sides, the only exception being the mine owners who loathed her and would I am sure have killed her if they could have.

One of a kind
