    Well Done, Finland !

    Excellent news !

Sanna Mirella Marin, Finnish politician and current leader of the Social Democratic Party, will will be sworn in as Prime Minister of Finland on 10 December 2019, today !

I wish Australia the USA and the UK, were so lucky to have some much needed youthful leadership to inspire their people with.

Because a 34 year old totally has the needed experience, patience and wisdom to lead a country.

Edit: The PM in Finland isn't actually leading anything

Well, to be fair, those with experience, patience and a lifetime's worth of accumulated wisdom are not doing too good a job in many countries or city states.

I'm assume she's fairly and democratically elected and leave it at that. We have the same changes happening in our District Council and I'm not about to use the age = all the good things we need argument at this point.

The prime minister is nominated by the president and then confirmed by parliament. The president is elected by universal suffrage every 6 years.

What's actually so well done in this? It sounds like simply because she is a woman and a young woman at that, she is somehow miraculously better than anyone else for the post?

WOW !!!!! shakes head at that comment.

I didn't particularly care about, Senna Marin's gender, what piqued my jubilant interest was that another functional democratic government had chosen a younger person to be their PM, instead of an, old crusty, out of touch, career politician, that infect most governments in the 'English' speaking world............ or they're on a first name dinner guest list basis with the, Murdoch family, like our happy clappy PM in Australia, is!

Here are the Chairpersons of the parties in the coalition government... all elected representatives with popular mandate, not appointed by a single omnipotent sociopath to serve his dictatorial aims.

Incidentally I just came across a well-written article in New York Times that juxtaposes the Nordic social democratic model with the increasing ruthlessness of the American "free market", but here in Hong Kong we can (or must) look at it from the viewpoint of corporatism in the service of totalitarian "socialism" (communist only in name, language and mentality).

It's an interesting comparison; the Scandinavian countries are open and export driven economies with populations similar to Hong Kong's 7+ million. Kiwis might also find this interesting.

"But the Nordic nations as a whole, including a majority of their business elites, have arrived at a simple formula: Capitalism works better if employees get paid decent wages and are supported by high-quality, democratically accountable public services that enable everyone to live healthy, dignified lives and to enjoy real equality of opportunity for themselves and their children. For us, that has meant an increase in our personal freedoms and our political rights — not the other way around."

The ironic thing is that Trump once said why he can't have more migrants from Nordic countries instead of, in his own words, shithole countries from Africa. It's blatantly racist and Trump probably is ignorant of and doesn't care about the social democratic system in Nordic countries. But it does raises the interesting question of why would most Scandinavians move to the US when they enjoy a higher standard of living back home?

Oh I am sure there have been quite a number of them moving to the US for business reason, but in terms of quality of life, for the majority of them, they can have it better in their own countries.

I don't care if a PM/CE/President is 24 or 94 - as long as they have good values and improve the wellbeing of the citizens they are meant to serve that's fine by me.

There are many reasons why Scandinavian countries are consistently the happiest on the planet, the ignoring of stereotypical leadership wannabees seeking to ensure the status quo of the rich getting richer remains is probably one of them. And also I suspect it is the reason why they have excellent social policies, the lowest wealth gap, the lowest re-offending rate...and on and on. Why every other country hasn't already copied the Scandinavian model is a mystery.

I know which picture makes me happy.
