I have a complaint @shri - this thread really should be in the Anti-Productivity sub-forum, as befits the esteemed HRHs.
But why do you care so much about what they say? Their life don't really have any kind of impact on you, right? They don't have policy-making decisions. They don't have power to decide on the fate of British citizens. The only thing that remotely matters I can imagine is that they are feeding off taxpayer money. Good thing that I am a believer in republicanism (the idea, not the American political party) that sovereignty rest ultimately with the people, not an unaccountable and unelected monarchy.

Financially if Scotland left the UK the remainder of the Kingdom would be better off. This explains the previous Scottish independence referendum and why they would only be welcomed back into the EU with significant concessions on the entry rules.

I think the Union would actually end up worse off in other ways if Scotland did the above. It would become divisive and lead to tensions that don’t need to exist. It would also pretty much guarantee a Tory government for a long time. Much as I’m not a Labour fan one party dominance is good for no country.

Much as I respect the Queen she won’t live for ever. Surely when she passes it is time to get rid of the archaic monarchy. The wealth that could be redistributed is enormous. The revenue that could be made from Palaces and estates also a constant source of revenue better in private hands with a percentage of profits plus tax going to the country.

While we are about it those tax evading companies earning huge wealth out of the UK need to be addressed (no need to tax us expats though, although I think that will come. ID cards linked to health and social welfare too. It’s never too late.

The whole Megan thing just reminds me of the absurd outpouring over Diana’s death. I’m not a staunch republican but my tendencies lean much further in that direction than royalist.

I repeat, I think the Queen has been a magnificent figurehead, all this considered on the rollercoaster ride of the last 40 years. If they’d left monarchy to comparative inbreeding they probably would not have had the issues with Diane, Fergie and Meghan and even dear old Andy’s indiscretions would probably have just been rumours.
