Digital service tax -based on revenue in a tax jurisdiction

A tax on the big digital players revenue has been implemented by Singapore, Malaysia and soon to be in the UK. France have already started.

This anti-big business tax certainly seems popular but is it populist or a real way to tackle multinationals shipping profits to low tax havens?

Not very efficient or optimal, but all of them (or at least, all the European players) have made clear that they will be cancelled when a proper multi-lateral solution is implemented.

US had been dragging its feet on that, so other countries were rather forced into this imperfect temporary solution.
