She was a towering legal figure for many decades. She fought for gender equality early in her career and tried some key landmark cases on the same issue as a Supreme Court Justice. Interestingly she caught on with popular culture as the "RBG".
So whats the deal? I'm assuming Trump has no time to appoint a replacement before the election?
GOP Senate leader McConnell has already said he will try and ram through Trump's nominee to replace Ginsberg before the election (or in the lame duck period after Trump loses but before Biden assumes office). That violates longstanding norms in the US Senate, but then since Trump and his GOP allies are all into norm busting, I doubt that will matter to them, never mind the blatant hypocriscy when McConnell blocked Obama's nominee, Garland.

there should have been a mandatory retirement age of say 75.... she should have assumed senior status at 70...
The principle was established in 2016 with the blocking of Merrick Garland that Supreme Court seats should not be filled close to an election - by Republicans who blocked President Obama's nomination until after Trump took office and could appoint Bret "I like beer" Kavanaugh.
Trump and his associates are not known for sticking to principles.
The "principle" was established in 1968 and not 2016. The so called "Thurmond Rule" is not an actual rule though and has been frequently violated by both parties based on what is politically convenient and who holds the Senate/Presidency. Might as well not exist. Jimmy Carter appointed Stephen Breyer on 13 November 1980 and he was confirmed on 9 December, after Carter had lost the election to Reagan.
Even in fall 1984, before the election, when Thurmond himself was chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee there were judicial confirmations.

Even though the court tilted to the right, Justice Roberts has provided some balance in recent decisions. It is absolutely essential that democrats do everything possible to delay the confirmation of a new judge until after the election. Yet another critical element that will determine how America will be shaped in the future. It is not unthinkable that Republican lose the senate in the next election and Trump is a long shot to win at this point which would pave the way for a more balanced court in the near future.
Hopefully the prospect of having a landmark decision such as Roe vs Wade overturned will push even more women to vote against Trump in November

Trump will nominate the outstanding Amy Coney Barrett to continue RBG's legacy as a female Supreme Court justice and inspire all sensible honourable women to vote for Trump in order to rescue innocent American girls from the horrors of the abortion slaughterhouses.
Meanwhile, I'm sure Aramis is busy looking for Barrett's 3rd grade classmate to whine about having her hair pulled by Barrett or not getting invited to her house for a playdate.
