Why did such an unlikable Republican President pick up so many votes?
It's the economy, stupid

Without COVID, Trump would have won in a landslide.
Think about that for a moment.
America is truly a country of cruelty and hate.
Can't help thinking of that man who put £5 million on Trump. Must have been a tough rollercoaster few hours
Yeah, right. Like the Proud Boys are going to comment "He was the only one supporting white supremacy". Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
Like it or not, haves are generally not too keen to share their livelihood with the have nots. And if you live in a very wealthy country - and the US, for all its dysfunctionality (what's the proper noun here?), is an incredibly wealthy country - the you're a 'have', and immigrants are have nots. Lots of Latinos (and American-born Asians) aren't wild about large scale immigration because that's competition for them too. Trump stopped the Latino bashing this time round, look what happened.
Florida passed Amendment 2 with over 60% support. From a traditional republican's perspective, that's the devil incarnate. Yet, Trump won the state. It's not the economy, it's "my piece of the pie"
