I had the opposite reaction. He had abused his body so much and cheated death on several previous occasions. He was very much like a character in a Greek tragedy. He had otherworldly talents in one phase of life and great flaws in others. RIP.
Quote from the article below:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/25/s...dona-dead.html[Maradona] continued: “I am 53 going on 78 because my life hasn’t been normal. I’ve lived 80 with the life I’ve gone through.”
wow! he really let himself go, not looking at all athletic toward the end. Not surprised that he did die of cardiac arrest or he would have had renal failure eventually, considering his long term lifestyle of stimulant and depressant drug use.
RIP one of the worlds most talented and famous soccer players.

Went back to rewatch this HBO doc and it made me think what a remarkable Maradona is because he is both in the conversation as G.O.A.T. and a cautionary tale of What-Could-Have-Been. Everyone else is in one category or the other. As great as he was, he clearly wasted some prime years on the pitch due to his lifestyle/addictions.
