    Trump's second impeachment

Trump's lawyers put in a laughably bad performance at the start of the second impeachment trial at the US senate. But does it make any difference in the end? The Democrats don't have the vote to convict him anyway, right?

    All theater..

In a key vote Tuesday during former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declared he thinks the trial is unconstitutional — sticking to a stance he took last month.

Both he and his fellow Kentucky Republican, Sen. Rand Paul, voted that the proceeding is unconstitutional, but a majority of the Senate affirmed the trial's legitimacy in a 56-44 vote.

I heard the Democrats want to force the GOP to go on record to exonerate Trump by giving him an acquittal. Then use that against them. But many of these GOP senators come from constituencies with strong Trump support anyway. Voting to acquit him would play well to Trump's base?

You don't win elections pandering to the extremes. It is the undecided voters that should be the important constituent.

Are there enough of them to make a difference?

EVERY FPTP election I have ever seen there are enough undecided that decide at some point during the election cycle to allow someone to win.

I mean would it make a difference to the undecided/independent voters? Some of whom have short memories, fickle preference and simply don't regard this as important in their criteria on who to vote.

This is a real shame, would have been nice to know we have seen the back of the orange man for good

While Arnie is telling us the man is a fascist lunatic, Trump seems to be doing his best to channel his inner Arnie.

And he isn't going to be Beethoven.

The defense got almost no coverage in the media but it pretty convincingly showed that Trump’s language did not meet the requirements for incitement, and if it did we would have to impeach a huge group of the democrats as well for using identical language. Trump is a jerk but the impeachment “trial” was a sham and not legal without the Chief Justice presiding anyway.
